Nobody Wants to Support You!

If you do one thing in the new year, let it be this: eradicate "Support me on… " from your vocabulary. It's a marketing pitch that just doesn't work.

Stop asking for support

Take a good look around. Most people are not exactly thriving economically. So, imagine your prospective Substack subscriber. They're trying to figure out how they're going to swing rent/mortgage this month. They're not so sure about the electric bill. And extras like restaurants and entertainment are probably out of the question. Then your comic pops up on their screen. Finally — a moment of happiness in their stress-filled life.

That is, until you hit them with this...

If you liked this comic, support me on Patreon!

There it is. The mother of all tone-deaf marketing pitches. This poor schmuck isn't sure they can support themselves, and your pitch is "Support me, too!"
